NH #790: Diablo Canyon Nuclear Extension Dangers Exposed as Gov. Newsom Kicks Can Down the Road – Linda Seeley

Linda Seeley of San Luis Obispo Mothers for Peace, showing off the latest family member and another reason why she fights against Diablo Canyon nuclear reactors

This Week’s Featured Interview:

  • California’s Diablo Canyon nuclear power reactors are built atop an earthquake fault, have been cited for multiple safety issues, and leak tritium-contaminated water into the Pacific ocean (as all nukes leak tritiated water). But the Nuclear Regulatory Commission has extended its license until 2045 and now California must approve its continued operation past 2030. California Governor and Presidential hopeful Gavin Newsom has kicked the hot potato of an extension of the license down the road to whoever his successor might be (slick political move!), but the industry has ramped up to push for its operation until at least 2045.

What’s to stop it? Activists like Linda Seeley, Vice President and Spokesperson for San Luis Obispo Mothers for Peace. Linda has personally opposed Diablo Canyon since before ground was broken for it, and she continues to fight on behalf of the children, grandchildren, and all future generations. She is fighting for Life itself.

Here, fresh off the Mothers for Peace Legislative Briefing on Diablo Canyon, she clearly spells out the problems with the site, the manipulations going on around it, and why it must not be allowed to continue operation.

I spoke with Linda Seeley on August 14, 2026

You’d think dynamiting the Danube, raging wildfires and dropping river and lake levels would deter future nuclear power plans. And you’d be wrong.

Activist Shout-Out:

  • COMMENTS TO THE NRC NEEDED BY AUGUST 31 – Oppose the Nuclear Regulatory Commission loosening and degrading its longstanding radiation safety standards. COMMENT HERE:
