New Mexico Nuclear UPDATE:  What’s the latest on the proposed Consolidated “Interim” Storage sites – aka high level nuclear waste dumps – in New Mexico and West Texas?  This week’s two powerhouse activists bring us up to date on current status and how listeners can still have a voice in the outcome.

• Leona Morgan is Diné and a community organizer and activist who has been fighting nuclear colonialism since 2007. She helped to successfully prevent a new uranium mining and processing project in Churchrock and Crownpoint, New Mexico. Leona co-founded and did much work under Diné No Nukes, which helped to establish the Haul No! Initiative and Radiation Monitoring Project. Currently, she is focused on stopping storage of nuclear power plant waste in New Mexico. In June 2016, she co-founded Nuclear Issues Study Group, a multi-racial, multi-generational, women-led volunteer organization dedicated to protecting New Mexico from all things nuclear through education, art, and activism.
  Eileen O’Shaughnessy is a fourth generation Irish-American educator, organizer, and musician living on stolen Tiwa lands in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She teaches courses at the University of New Mexico including Nuclear New Mexico: Social & Environmental Impacts and Environmental Justice Practicum. In 2016, Eileen co-founded the Nuclear Issues Study Group (NISG) with Leona Morgan. Eileen is the front-woman , songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist for the celebrated queer social justice folk band Eileen & the In-Betweens, which has toured around the U.S., Canada, and Europe.
