This Week’s Featured Interviews:

Pilgrim Nuclear Power Plant in Plymouth, Massachusetts – the exact same design as the reactors that melted down at Fukushima Daiichi – permanently shut down as of June 1, 2019 after a long struggle by local activists. Nuclear Hotseat spoke with two women who have each been involved for more than 30 years in the Pilgrim nuclear battle.

Pilgrim nuclear shutdown demonstration on Cape Cod – Diane Turco on the line, as usual.

Shutdown by itself is a good thing, as it takes away the dangers of a catastrophic accident – but it’s not over by a long shot. Every nuclear reactor community will face these same issues. Know that both these women acknowledge help they’ve gotten from other groups, such as the one that shut down Vermont Yankee in 2014, and offer themselves as resources to any group working to shut down their local nuclear nightmare. Numnutz of the Week (for Outstanding Nuclear Boneheadedness):

Nuclear Insanity – a Cataclysm on Earth may not be what the lying propagandists of the nuclear industry had in mind with their “NICE Future” program. Nor would they be fond of Nuclear Is Certainly Expensive! (Feel free to come up with your own acronym!) But their Breakthrough book is so filled with lies about nuclear, it qualifies to win the Pinocchio “Nose Knows When You’re Lying!” Award for really horrid, conscious manipulation of nuclear awareness. These people – the ones who thought up, wrote, published and released this waste of trees – have absolutely no shame or conscience. Numnutz fer shure!
